ADF family support programs.
Strengthening ADF families through connection, resilience and meaningful time together.
Background
Younger Heroes delivers ADF family support programs designed for current and ex-serving Australian Defence Force parents and their children. We are an Australian registered charity committed to strengthening family relationships impacted by military service.
Service brings sacrifice. Deployments, training cycles, postings and transition to civilian life can quietly create emotional distance within families. Children grow while a parent is away. Routines shift. Communication changes. Over time, small gaps in connection can widen.
Our role is to create structured space for reconnection before that distance becomes permanent.
ADF family support programs that rebuild connection.
Our ADF family support programs are nature-based, technology-free and carefully structured. Families step away from daily pressure and distractions to focus entirely on one another.
Across three guided days, parents and children engage in shared outdoor activities, practical challenges and supported conversations. Without screens or competing demands, attention returns to what matters most.
The environment is intentional. Nature helps calm the nervous system. Shared experiences rebuild trust. Skilled facilitators, who understand Defence life, guide families through activities designed to feel safe, inclusive and achievable.
Each ADF family support programs experience is built around strengthening bonds, enhancing communication and encouraging teamwork.

Why ADF family support programs matter.
Military service affects more than the person in uniform. It shapes partners, children and the entire household.
When connection weakens early, it can influence future relationships. Miscommunication, unresolved stress and emotional withdrawal can carry into adolescence and adulthood. Left unsupported, these patterns may contribute to long-term strain.
Our ADF family support programs focus on early intervention. By strengthening family relationships now, we help reduce the risk of ongoing breakdown. Families gain practical tools they can continue using long after the program ends.
Strong families build strong communities. When Defence families feel connected and supported, the wider community benefits.
What families gain from ADF family support programs.
Rather than focusing on problems, our ADF family support programs focus on strengths.
Families practise clear communication through guided discussions. Parents model calm problem solving during shared challenges. Children build confidence as they feel heard and valued. Team-based activities encourage cooperation and trust.
Over three days, families often experience a noticeable shift. Conversations become easier. Laughter returns. Small misunderstandings are addressed constructively.
Resilience is built through shared experience. Facing manageable challenges together strengthens collective confidence. Families leave with renewed connection and practical strategies for everyday life.
A national commitment to Defence families
Since 2017, Younger Heroes has delivered ADF family support programs across Australia, supporting hundreds of Defence families.
Our impact includes:
- More than 30 programs delivered nationally.
- Over 250 families directly supported.
- More than 2,000 individuals positively impacted.
- Over 5,000 combined years of Defence service represented.
Behind every number is a family choosing to reconnect rather than drift apart.
Younger Heroes is a registered Australian charity with full Deductible Gift Recipient status. Our ADF family support programs are delivered with transparency, accountability and deep respect for the Defence community.
We understand that seeking support can feel difficult. That is why our programs are empowering, not clinical. Families are not viewed as broken. They are recognised as strong units who simply need protected time and guidance to reconnect.
Defence service will always demand resilience. Our mission is to ensure that resilience extends to the family at home.
If your family has been shaped by service and you are ready to strengthen your connection, Younger Heroes is here to support you.
